Dettori on a winner at Ascot

Racing is on at Ascot, Yarmouth, Fontwell, Hexam and Wolverhampton today, with Belmont Park and Finger Lakes offering simulcast racing from North America.

Meanwhile, Richard Hughes has all but sewn up the Flat racing jockeys' title (his first) with just over a month remaining in the regular season.

Sportinglife.com has reported that at least one bookmaking company, Betfred, has decided to pay out early to his backers, as Hughes holds a substantial lead before the season closes at Doncaster in early November.

According to Sportinglife.com, when the market for the 2012 title was opened early this year, Hughes was at odds of 8-1. He went odds-on for the first time at the beginning of August and looked the champion jockey even before former champion Ryan Moore suffered his latest injury, said Betfred spokesman Andrew Griffiths.

Today at Ascot in the competitive looking 27th race over six furlongs (0-105 Handicap), we like the look of Frankie Dettori's mount, KHUBALA at 7-1. Richard Hughes rides 12-1 chance POOLE HARBOUR for his guv'nor Richard Hannon in the 18-horse field and has good exacta prospects.
