The Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association will host its annual opening ceremony to mark the official start of its 2012-13 collegiate competition season today at The Mico University College. The ceremony is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. with the assembling of teams from across the island.
Teams will compete in five sports male basketball, male football, male and female table tennis, male and female badminton and netball.
Competition will begin at 11:30 a.m. with football at Mico and Wolmer's, basketball at Mico and netball beginning at St Hugh's High's court a few minutes from the main venue. The final rounds of netball will be played at Mico.
This year's opening day and sports jamboree marks a very important event on the association's calendar which will see more than 600 student athletes from among 19 institutions such as Church Teachers' College, Moneague College, G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport, the Caribbean Maritime Institute, University of Technology, College of Agriculture, Science and Education, University of the West Indies, Mona, The Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts, among others.
