Earthquake shakes Gulf of California coast

A magnitude-six earthquake has shaken the Gulf of California coast in Mexico, but there are no reports of damage.

The US Geological Survey says the quake hit at 11:26 p.m. Sunday local time (2:26 a.m. Monday EST; 0626 GMT) was centred 63 miles (102 kilometres) southwest of Los Mochis.

Local officials reported some panic but no known damage.
