Needed now: Independent parliamentarians

THE EDITOR, Sir:

In response to Ruel Reid's guest column 'How Church can help save Jamaica', published Monday, October 8, 2012, he knows as well as I that it is easier said than done.

His intentions were good, but believe it or not, the Lord reigns, and the Church knows that. God is good and is right here in Jamaica leading every step of the way.

I must give Jamaicans the credit in that the same people that put the Jamaica Labour Party in power 2007, many of them supported the landslide victory of the People's National Party in 2011. They will vote for strong leaders rather than party.

I do agree that we need more independent parliamentarians who will be allowed to function for the progress of our country and people rather than along party lines, and personal gains. Surely, as a start, we need independent senators to represent the people of Jamaica and lead the way for social dialogue and international partnership.
