Give men voice to promote family values

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Thank you so much for publishing the article 'Real men can't commit rape' (Gleaner, October 8, 2012) from Dr Garth Rattray. It was timely and informative. We need to hear more men speak out against the barbarity that is taking place. We are depending on men to teach their sons to be real men - to break the pattern of violence.

If we hear from more positive males, boys and men who do not have strong and decent, or any, father figures will eventually receive the message.

I hope that The Gleaner will consider publishing a weekly section penned by men speaking directly to boys and men. We can't keep blaming entertainers for controlling the minds of the youth when we are not even making any attempts to have more positive voices heard.

Please act. You have the platform. Ask responsible and positive men in society to write. I am sure that they will.

Just as Dr Rattray did this of his own volition, I know other men have words to impart, but probably haven't taken the time to write.
