LIME JAMAICA has stretched a helping hand to yet another youth development organisation on its continuous philanthropic journey.
The telecommunications giant, on Thursday, presented a donation of $700,000 to Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU), covering the total cost of the organisation's fund-raising Christmas card production.
Since 1991, YOU has been serving Jamaican youths, parents, teachers and communities promoting growth through various mentorship and training programmes. YOU has, over the years, conducted their programmes in 30 primary and secondary schools, as well as 15 communities across the island.
With this funding, LIME anticipates that the proceeds from this initiative will be able to cover an adequate portion of YOU's expenses.
"LIME's contribution to YOU is expected to fully fund the production cost of the Christmas cards and promotions. We are honoured to be able to assist Youth Opportunities Unlimited who have pioneered Mentorship Jamaica in their time of need," said Garfield Sinclair, managing director of LIME Jamaica and The Cayman Islands.
This donation will incorporate the printing of 50,000 greeting cards as well as 4,000 promotional flyers.
YOU was recently forced to end its National Violence Prevention Programme because of the discontinuation of support from its major sponsor. YOU has fallen victim to the current global economic recession and, as such, has been functioning through the voluntary work of its staff members. The proceeds from the YOU Christmas cards will be used to supplement the organisation's administrative overheads.
