THE EDITOR, Sir:
The Jamaica Urban Transport Company (JUTC) has been providing a valuable service to the nation. This service has been helpful to many persons, albeit the bus system has its fair share of flaws. As a coin has two sides, the bus system has a negative and a positive side.
However, the JUTC must be commended for making provisions for the disabled in our society. This is evident through the provision of special seats for such persons.
In an ironic twist of fate, these handicapped persons are often denied their accorded privileges by undisciplined and callous members of our society. Despite being aware of the designated seats for these persons, cruel individuals adamantly refuse to let disabled persons have the seats that were provided for them.
One of the possible solutions to this problem is to enforce a measure which deters persons from occupying these seats, so that the intended recipients can benefit from them.
