THE EDITOR, Sir:
I read yesterday morning with tears in my eyes about the continued rape and killing of our children. I had just let off my two babies at school (ages eight and six) and bought the newspapers. There was another horrific crime.
The body of a 14-year-old found burnt in bushes. When are we going to implement serious laws to tackle our crime problems? When are we going to stop pussyfooting in Gordon House and really get down to the business of helping the people of this country?
It seems to me that as long as the poorer class continues to be victims of these terrible crimes, nothing will be done. If we check the statistics, it is mainly children and people from the lowest rank of society are killed, raped and maimed every day.
The criminals in this country have no fear of the laws of the land. We need to make rape a mandatory life sentence. We need to bring back the death penalty. We cannot continue to allow these human-rights groups to dictate what laws we should implement. Their children and relatives are not being raped and killed.
Enough is enough!
