PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

Gordon Greenidge, the former Barbados and West Indies opening batsman, who also served as a West Indies chief selector, has been again contracted by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) as a coach.

He has been assigned to work with the TTCB academy induc-tees, representing the new generation of young and upcoming players.

Greenidge, 61, represented West Indies in 108 Tests and 128 one-day international matches between 1974 and 1991. He amassed 7,558 Test runs, including 19 hundreds and 34 half-centuries at an average of 44.72, and 5,134 runs (ave: 45.03) in ODIs with 11 centuries and 31 fifties.

With another Barbadian Desmond Haynes, Greenidge formed arguably one of the best opening partnerships in the world.

Greenidge also had an illustrious career for Hampshire in the English County Championship.
