Ministry tells schools to monitor storm

AS Tropical Storm Sandy makes its way towards the island, the Ministry of Education has told school principals to keep an eye on weather conditions and determine whether the institutions should remain open.

"They should monitor the situation and keep their regional offices informed as to any plans for closing schools, because the principals know their structures and they know their environment, and they know where there may be the possibility of flooding, and some schools are used as disaster centres," Sheryl Bromfield, director of communications, said yesterday.
