BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth:
DEEP SEA fishermen yesterday left the open waters of Jamaica's south coast and were said to be on the way to Mosquito Cove, an area located in Lucea, Hanover.
Nally McCog, captain of Miss Kendra, a 45-foot boat, said his crew was making final preparations to leave for safe harbour. He said six other boats had already left.
McCog, along with his crew of five, had initially planned to ride out the storm on the boat. He said they have supplies to last for five days but noted that sea conditions were deteriorating.
In the meantime, while the fishermen were heading for safe harbour, shoppers were staying away from purchasing fish from vendors in some markets.
Petrona Bennett said she was hoping to be relieved of 50 pounds, but was unsuccessful in attracting buyers as few patrons could be seen. Her counterpart, Blossom Bennett, said she was awaiting a prospective customer who had promised to take 50 of her 150lb.
