No progress after 50 years

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am deeply concerned about Jamaica. After all these years of Independence, we are not making any progress.

Why can't this country grow? I am not going to join the bandwagon and blame the politicians. I think they are as committed to the growth and development of Jamaica as anybody else. They have tried their best to lead and get this country moving forward, but to no avail.

I think something is wrong with our people. We are too selfish. We do not think about the country on a whole, we only think about ourselves.

If this country is to grow and prosper, we must stop being so selfish. I think this selfishness is largely due to ignorance. We have to get our people educated in order for there to be any hope for this country.

A sound education where people learn to think and solve problems on their own is our only hope. We need to start now, if we are going to catch up. We need to start growing this country now in a positive and meaningful way.
