CHOICES Career & Education Advice will stage a series of workshops in Barbados and St Lucia aimed at reaching some 2,000 students.

The workshops targeted at third and fifth form students in eight schools are scheduled for October 29 to November 7.

Presentations to third formers will be on the topic 'Find The Right Career For You' while the fifth formers' workshop will be entitled 'Get on Track for Career, Education & Life'.

The workshops are an extension of CHOICES' regional outreach. The career advice company said it has already introduced its programmes in Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, St Vincent & The Grenadines, Dominica and Antigua, reaching both students and counsellors.

Career Key

CHOICES said that over the same period a group of 20 counsellors participating in the Caribbean Youth Empowerment Project (CYEP), sponsored by The Centre for Adolescent Renewal and Education (C.A.R.E.) in St Lucia, will be trained in the use and benefits of 'The Career Key' to assist them in their career guidance programme with young students.

"This is another opportunity for us to assist youths in making the right choices by helping them to understand who they are, what are their unique skills, what is their personality type and finding the best occupation that matches these factors," said CHOICES General Manager Angela deFreitas,

CHOICES is a 15-year-old career advice service mostly targeted at high school and college students.

Its activities include training, expositions, and workshops. CHOICES also produces the Caribbean version of "The Career Key" and trains persons in how to use it to determine their personality type — whether realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising or conventional — and to choose the best career option that fits with their personality .

CHOICES, which operates from Jamaica, previously introduced its programme in other Caribbean countries, namely Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, St Vincent & The Grenadines, Dominica and Antigua in recent years with activities for both counsellors and students.
