100 men detained following murder

KINGSTON, (AP):

Jamaican police have detained roughly 100 men in a troubled city following the slaying of a woman by a pair of gunmen.

The men were interrogated yesterday by police detectives, a couple of days after 53-year-old Donna Cowan was fatally shot in her yard in the Tawes Pen section of Spanish Town.

Police say the killing has increased tensions in the gang-ridden area and they are trying to head off a feud between members of the One Order gang.

Violent gangs are deeply entrenched in Spanish Town, where the One Order and Clansman gangs have been at war for years over control of extortion and drug rings.
