An Alrick Ottey brace helped Cornwall College dish out some amount of revenge over William Knibb yesterday, with a 4-0 whipping which pushed them to the top of Zone One in the Inter-Zone round of the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup.
The match was the feature clash of a double-header played at Jarrett Park.
In the first match, Spot Valley defeated St James High 1-0 in a hotly contested game, through a second-minute goal from Kemar Reid.
But all the excitement was bottled up for the Cornwall-William Knibb matchup that belatedly sparked to life in the second half, with all four goals being scored after both teams cancelled each other out in first-half action.
It was Alex McFarlane who opened the floodgates for Cornwall College, latching on to a pass inside the area before firing beyond the reach of Bentley James in the William Knibb goal in the 70th minute.
Stung to life, William Knibb came close to parity in the next minute, when Lando Graham's acrobatic overhead kick was blocked on its way to goal; but it was Cornwall who responded best, finding another gear to go 2-0 up in the 73rd.
