Why trust Correctional Services?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Finally, the country has caught the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) wanting and napping.

Recently in an interview on 'Smile Jamaica', a question was asked to a representative of DCS: Were inmates involved in the parade of the Inmates Awareness week, the answer was no.

How can the DCS have Inmates Awareness Week and/or Correc-tional Week, yet inmates are not participants? How can the DCS ask for the country and organisation to come on board to rehabilitate inmates, yet it does not have inmates participating in their Correctional Week?

How can the DCS labour the inmates to make items for expositions yet not train, rehabilitate and empower them to be sales reps for their product, socialise, interact, market their product and to become successful businessmen and women?

Inmates were providing marvellous work in the cultural area without violation, and DCS took it over. Why?

Jamaicans, if I own a restaurant yet do not eat there, would you? No, so why must we trust the DCS?
