There is now a facility that is looking to play its part in seeing to sportsmen and women's health and wellness. Located in the hills of St Ann, Liberty Hill Great House Resort and Spa is rated as being one of only two "true wellness retreats in Jamaica" by the Commonwealth Secretariat.
Sportsmen and women, regardless of discipline, often take a battering both physically and mentally. First, it's hours of hard training, pushing the body to its limits and occupying the mind with all the discipline required.
The joy of victory, the agony of defeat, all mentally taxing, not to mention those horrific injuries which, if not managed properly, can be career ending and life lasting.
Too often, we hear the cry that the needs of athletes are not fully met, despite the fact that everyone is quick to jump on the bandwagon when athletes do well.
Liberty Hill Great House Resort and Spa offers a combination of health, hospitality and sports professionals, geared at providing rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. Perched 1,200 feet above sea level with a 180-degree view of the ocean and beautiful gardens, this retreat is ideal for a total mental getaway.
Most of the food served at Liberty Hill is grown on the property. No chemical fertilisers are used and meals are prepared minus processed salts and sugars. The property also boasts a myriad of medicinal plants including: meringue, guinea hen weed, fever/lemon grass, and more. Natural herbs and spices are incorporated in every meal.
Also offered are a full range of spa treatments at Liberty Hill's world-class spa, which features a sauna and training room. Guests can visit for a day or stay overnight in one of the beautifully appointed guest rooms.
With a number of medical professionals on call, athletes with special needs are also able to make requests for special treatment.
One resident health professional is a registered nurse and clinical professional with 30 years of health-care experience. This experience extends to the field of rehabilitation and case management for catastrophic and sport-related injuries. Consultant skills allow for the lending of expertise towards developing rehabilitation modalities.
In addition to specialising in the care of persons with catastrophic and sport-related injuries, there is a unique wellness programme to assess injured person's needs and coordinate necessary medical and non-medical services.
All this allows for a healthy environment in which to heal, rest, relax and rejuvenate.
