Style moment with Korto

Published: Monday | December 3, 2012 Comments 0

A fashion designer and stylist, born in Liberia during the time of the civil war, Korto Momolu left the African continent in pursuit of higher heights and settled in Canada, she pursued her passion and studied fashion. A graduate of the L'Academies des Couturiers Design Institute in Ontario, Korto later moved to Arkansas with her husband and daughter, where she began to produce chic women's wear and accessories influenced by her African roots and inspired by rich fabrics.

After working as an independent fashion designer and continuing her education at the renowned Parsons School of Design, Korto followed her dreams and entered Bravo TV's hit show Project Runway where she was the first runner-up. The now, well-sought after designer, who can count reigning Miss Universe Leila Lopes as a client, will be in Jamaica on Friday for a trunk show at Kerrymanwomanhome and we got her to share her Style Moments.

"Personal style to me is connected to my emotions. However, my own personal style, regardless of my emotions ... will always be comfortable, easy, eye-catching and trend safe!" Korto continued, "Adding personality to my wardrobe makes it my own and my emotions determine the colors and prints as well as the silhouettes," she ended.

5 style essentials

1 Great-fitting pair of skinny jeans - you can pair this with almost anything. It's also pretty easy to dress up and dress down.

2 A racer-back tank (in every colour) - a basic foundation piece which I can never have enough of.

3 A great medium-size fashion scarf - it can replace accessories when I want to be comfortable and chic.

4 A large everyday bag - it's great to carry all my essentials and it doubles well as a carry-on when I travel.

5 A simple-cut silhouette dress that's not trendy - everyone needs a clean slate ... this helps me reinvent the wheel each time I wear it!
