Walters now Sportsman of Year nominee - Late addition announced yesterday

Kingston:

The selection committee of the RJR Sports Foundation has added new World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion, Nicholas Walters, to the list of nominees for the award of Jamaica's National Sportsman of the Year 2012.

According to a release, the Mike Fennell-led committee made the addition and official announcement yesterday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Walters secured the World title by defeating Colombia's Daulis Prescott by way of a seventh-round technical knockout to become champion.

The other nominees for Sportsman of the Year 2012 are: Nickel Ashmede, Yohan Blake, Usain Bolt, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels and Warren Weir.

The National Sportsman and Sportswoman for 2012 will be named at a ceremony at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Friday, January 11, 2013
