THE EDITOR, Sir:
WHILE I appreciate you publishing my letter you titled 'Don't ass about with gay lobby', it is journalistically irresponsible, if not libellous, to alter my letter to give a certain slant or impression not intended.
You deliberately added the quotation marks to the abbreviated words Ass. Editor (resulting in 'ass editor' being published), and in so doing gave the public the impression those were my initial words. Plus, by using parochial language to title the letter, you also indirectly associated me with the public use of foul/questionable language, which could do damage to my public image. That is not only dishonest, but libellous, and I ask for an immediate public apology and/or the publishing of this letter of complaint unabridged.
As journalists, you should not be engaging in these kinds of 'shady' editing to people's submitted work. It's time you return to the high standards of professionalism The Gleaner was once noted for, instead of spending so much time trying to be self-appointed lobbyists and "character assassins" on behalf of the homosexual community.
