WESTERN BUREAU:Knibb Thunders, behind strong shooting performances from the guards Martin Belnavis, Shavaughn Reid and Alwayne Smith, outmatched Coral Gardens Raptors en route to a big 28-point win, 75-47, in the Western Basketball Association Hi-Lyte/Insports league on Tuesday night.
In spite of the loss, the Raptors (14 points) are still within touching distance of the leading pack of three clubs on 15 points.
Belnavis was good for a game-high 20 points and completed his double-double with his 10th rebound, as the Thunders eased into an early lead and were up by 10 at 19-9 at the end of the first quarter.
He received useful contributions from Reid, who scored 17 points, and Smith, who chipped in with 13 points, eight rebounds and two assists for the Thunders, who held a nine-point lead at the half.
The game was all but over by that point and Thunders' all-round game pushed them to a big 23-point third-quarter gap, to blow the lead out of the Raptors' reach, as they extended their dominance into the fourth.
Jerome Kisena top-scored for the Raptors with 19 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, while Ricardo Thomas had with 10 points and three rebounds.
Meanwhile, one game is scheduled for this afternoon, with seventh-place Inner-City Avalanche chasing points against last-place Muschett Cardinals at Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 6:30.
