Do Protestants hate Catholics?

The EDITOR, Sir:

This is an open letter to Father Richard Ho Lung, who wrote a column under the title 'Do Adventists hate Catholics?'

I read your article in The Sunday Gleaner of December 16, 2012. Maybe the title should have been, 'Do Protestants hate Catholics?' That would have been more fitting.

I remembered being called a Protestant in the early 1960s, while growing up in Jamaica. This name is generally no longer being used. Today, most of these groups are lumped together as 'Christians'. These Christians don't even know the meaning of the word Protestant unless it is looked up in the dictionary.

Thirty or 40 years ago, if the question was, therefore, asked, "Do Protestants hate Catholics?" the answer would be a resounding 'no', followed by 'we are going by the Bible and the Bible alone'.

As you know, the only group that is left as a true Protestant is the Seventh-day Adventist. This is confirmed by the title of your article.

It also confirmed the belief of several leaders in the Catholic Church.
