Residents in the Kingston Metropolitan Region and sections of Portmore in St Catherine can expect the backlog of garbage in their communities to be cleared within the coming days.
According to a release from the Metropolitan Parks and Markets (MPM) Waste Management Limited, the company has now implemented a revised plan that will include additional trips per unit, assigning new units and night collection to address the backlog.
In apologising to residents for the pile-up, the solid-waste company said the delay was caused by its inability to complete the collection cycle due to a number of factors, including mechanical problems being experienced by units in its hired fleet. Additionally, the company said at this time of year, there was always an increase in solid waste from social functions and family gatherings.
MPM is advising residents to ensure that their solid waste is placed outside their premises for collection or contact the Community Relations Department toll free at 1-888-253-2652 or 448-3220 to get information on scheduled collection days.
