It's the season for giving, and the United States Marine Corps was once again on hand with gifts for children at the Glenhope Nursery.
Joined by the United States ambassador to Jamaica, Pamela E. Bridgewater, the Marine Detachment of the United States Embassy in Kingston shared some special Christmas cheer through its annual US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Programme.
The more than 25 children were fêted on Christmas Eve with boxes of toys which they shared with each other and later enjoyed an afternoon of fun and games with Bridgewater, members of the US Marine Corps and the nursery staff, headed by Facility Manager Maxine Smith.
The Glenhope Nursery is one of 13 government-operated childcare institutions in Jamaica. It accommodates babies and toddlers who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, orphaned or disabled and as a consequence are in need of care and protection. The Toys for Tots Programme is a US Marine Corps global initiative aimed at spreading the message of hope and productivity to children and youth in communities in which a Marine Corps Reserve Unit is located.
