Divided Jamaica will not stand

Published: Monday | January 7, 2013 Comments 0

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The Jamaican Government has been accused of unlawful actions based on the request by the Office of the Contractor General to the director of public prosecutions for criminal proceedings to be filed against the Cabinet.

The Cabinet is the highest decision-making body of the State, and this development is unprecedented and unfortunate. Depending how events unfold, the Government could find itself in the very counterproductive and most embarrassing situation where it is simultaneously in the role of claimant, defendant, prosecution and arbitrator.

Prudence dictates that the most desirable objective is for the Cabinet and the OCG to dialogue and achieve consensus because a house divided against itself will not stand.
