OCG sends 'sham contractor' report to Parliament

THE OFFICE of the Contractor General (OCG) yesterday sent copies of its report of investigation into suspected sham contractors to eight state agencies including the police and the director of public prosecutions.

According to the OCG, the alleged sham contractors were awarded millions of dollars of government contracts by the National Housing Trust (NHT).

The contract oversight body's probe was prompted by irregularities which were detected by an OCG-commissioned audit conducted in 2009. The audit revealed, among other things, information which suggested that a group of five suspected sham contractors were allegedly involved in a criminal conspiracy concerning the award of government contracts by the NHT.
