Grace/ISSA rural cricket bowls off

The Grace/ISSA rural-area high-school cricket season opens today with with first-round limited overs games spread across eight zones and featuring 58 schools.

ISSA's pre-selected official opening game will be hosted at Cornwall College, where that institution faces Maldon High in a Zone-A encounterat 10:30.

Defending champions St Elizabeth Technical, champions for the past five years, will open their account in Zone C against Newell in Santa Cruz. Last year's beaten finalist, Vere Technical, opted to play their opening match against Bustamante High yesterday.

Manchester High, who have been to two finals, and are expected to be one of the top teams this season, open at home against Knox College while Holmwood Technical who won the inaugural competition in 2008, welcome deCarteret College.

Selected matches: Rusea's vs Frome (Zone B), BB Coke vs Maggotty (Zone C), Garvey Maceo vs Central (Zone E), Port Antonio vs Happy Grove (Zone F), Charlemont vs Islington (Zone G) and York Castle vs Aabutnott Gallimore (Zone H).

Playing conditions allow for 35 overs per side.
