Athletes from Kingston College (KC), Calabar High and Hydel High's girls, especially, dominated the early events at the Douglas Forrest Invitational Meet inside the National Stadium yesterday.

Defending Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships Class One long jump champion, Keniel Grant, of KC, started his 2013 campaign on a positive note with a big win in his pet event.

Grant had a winning leap of. 7.23 metres to take the event and set up a KC quinela, as schoolmate Clive Pullen (7.05m) finished second ahead G.C. Foster College's Cassick Wright (7.04m).

Calabar High once again showed their strength in the throwing events, as despite the absence of discus World Junior champion, Federick Dacres, they still dominated the Class One throwing event, claiming a one-two finish. Oshane Chambers won with a 50.32-metre throw and his teammate, Basil Bingham, was second with 46.76 metres. Competing in the Open discus, Dacres won with a 53.20-metre throw.

GOOD PERFORMANCES

Following an impressive showing at Champs last year, Hydel High's girls continued their good performances all-round. After topping the 100 metres field last week at the season-opening JC/Wata meet at Jamaica College, Shannell English emerged the top female in the Class Four 200 metres with a fast 25.69 seconds run. Her teammate, Carla Lawson, was second overall in 26.39 seconds.

It was also one-two for Hydel in Class Three as Taquece Duggan topped the field with 25.22 seconds over Ayesha Morgan, 25.55 seconds.

The Corey Bennett-coached team never stopped there, claiming another one-two finish in the Class Three 800m. Monifa Green was victorious in 2:22.43 ahead of Duggan, 2:24.94.
