Conduct proper research on malaria, Gleaner

Published: Monday | January 14, 2013 Comments 0

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I view with concern the type of information given to the public by your publication ('Don't panic!' The Gleaner, January 12, 2013). Malaria is caused by a protozoan (Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium knowlesi or Plasmodium malariae) which attacks red blood cells, reproduces and goes on to other red blood cells. It is not caused by viruses, which are a different group of organisms

I urge your reporters to verify their information before submission for publication. Remember, students and the general public use your information for research purposes.
