WESTERN BUREAU:

Gunfire erupted in Duncans, Trelawny, for the second time in four days yesterday when two men were shot, one fatally, just metres from the community's police station.

In the incident which occurred shortly after 1 p.m., the men, Xavier Brown and another man identified only as 'Mutty', were reportedly pounced upon by unknown assailants who opened fire on them.

The shooting, which sent bystanders scampering, saw Brown being killed on the spot, while 'Mutty' is reportedly in critical condition at the Falmouth Hospital.

The shooting comes in the wake of another shooting incident last Friday night when an eight-year-old child, in the island on vacation from the United Kingdom, was shot dead by a lone gunman who opened fire on a shop in the community.

Monday's shooting has left residents of the once-quiet community traumatised as, according to many, such activities were alien to the community prior to last week.
