Detectives attached to the St Andrew North Police Division have commenced an investigation into the shooting deaths of a licensed firearm holder and his attacker on Saxthorpe Avenue in St Andrew yesterday morning.
The incident took place shortly after 6 a.m. The licensed firearm holder has since been identified as 48-year-old Winston Josephs, a businessman of a St Ann address, while his attacker's name remained unknown.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Josephs was walking on the roadway when a man rode up on a bicycle and robbed him of his cellular phone and other valuables.
He then shot Josephs who in turn pulled his firearm which resulted in a shoot-out between the two. Both men died on the spot from the injuries they received in the shoot-out.
Several minutes later a police unit arrived on the scene and seized the two weapons.
It was later discovered that the gunman had robbed at least four other individuals earlier in the morning as at least four passers-by were able to identify him while the police were on the scene.
These individuals provided the police with their cellular phone numbers and when they were dialled all of them rang in the gunman's pocket.
The scene was then processed by detectives from Scene of Crime.
