Will prophecies fulfil on Syria?

THE EDITOR, Sir:

John Rapley's article ('End of an era in Syria') in The Gleaner of Monday, January 14, 2013 starts: "There is very little that can be predicted with confidence about Syria."

I would like to point out a prophecy in the Bible which states, Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. (Isaiah 17:1) My research shows that Damascus has been around for quite some time and has never been destroyed. I wonder if this prophecy is about to be fulfilled.

Coincidentally, there is also a prophecy regarding Egypt, and it reads as follows: Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it. And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom. (Isaiah 19:1-2)

My research shows that Egypt has never had civil war. Could we soon see this?
