Roger Clarke is a likeable bloke. He certainly knows more about growing sugar cane than we do. He has had great success at it.
Mr Clarke is probably more adept than any journalist at identifying pumpkins and mangoes - and other things grown in Jamaica. He definitely looks better, and perhaps even more authentic, than most in straw hat and water boots.
But as skilled as he is, and as much as we like, respect and appreciate Mr Clarke, we do not believe that he is the transformative figure required to lead Jamaica's agriculture ministry in the 21st century.
There is nothing personal in that!
