Family, friends, and well-wishers gathered at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Hill, St Andrew, on Saturday, to celebrate the life of Lorna Elaine Peralto, the widow of former chairman and general secretary of the Jamaica Labour Labour (JLP), mayor of Kingston, and parliamentarian, Ryan Peralto.
Mrs Peralto, 77, died on January 8 in Stony Hill.
The atmosphere throughout the church resonated with the sound of the organ, accompanied by other musical instruments, leading up to the tributes.
Mrs Peralto was lauded for her firm beliefs as a Roman Catholic and eucharistic minister by her son Jon Peralto.
"One thing you would learn is that you better straighten up on a Sunday morning because even if fire and brimstone was coming, you must go to church. There was no exception. It didn't matter if you just got home or if you bleached last night. Just make sure you were ready to leave with her, or you would end up having to ride the bicycle to church," he said.
He also expressed his gratefulness for the joy and happiness she brought to the family through her duties as a mother and grandmother.
"We all lived with a lot of love and affection from Mom each and every day, and, as always, we were welcome to have the shirt off her back," he added.
Her daughter, Aven Peralto, also provided an emotional tribute as no matter how hard she fought, the tears came flowing down her cheeks as she also expressed her mother's undying love and dedication to the Lord.
"Mommy, or Grandma Lorna, was a rockstar for Jesus and everyone He loved. Whether you were born in, roped in, married in, or loved in, you would be accepted by her and wrapped up in her love for the Lord without question," she said.
