MANDEVILLE, Manchester:A new MegaMart Wholesale Club opened its door in Mandeville, Manchester, on Wednesday and it is expected to provide a big boost for the parish with quality shopping and jobs, as well as business for farmers.
The new MegaMart branch is the fourth in the island. It is expected to provide up to 276 jobs. Employees were trained by the HEART Trust/NTA in their respective fields as well as in customer service.
Gassan Azan, during a media tour yesterday, said he was happy with the response from the public.
"When we opened our doors on Wednesday, there were about 30 to 40 persons outside. Within an hour or so, we were surprised by how fast the news spread throughout Manchester. By about 8 o'clock, I understand, we didn't have any parking space. We had some shoppers and some people who were curious, just wanted to see what the place looked like."
Azan expressed confidence in Mandeville MegaMart being successful. "We are expecting good business and I think that we are very much going to be a part of the landscape and the fabric of Manchester - Mandeville in particular."
