Windies eye number one spot

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC):Reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions West Indies could jump to the number one spot on the Reliance T20 Championship Table without actually playing a game.

The West Indies could climb out of its number two position depending on the outcome of a two-match T20 series between Australia and Sri Lanka starting this weekend.

Sri Lanka, the losing finalist of last October's World Twenty20, is currently ranked number one on the Reliance Table with 127 ratings points and lead second-place West Indies by five ratings points.

However, if seventh-ranked Australia win both their games against Sri Lanka, then Angelo Mathews' side will drop down to fourth place on 117 ratings points, putting West Indies at the top of the table.

One win for Sri Lanka in the two-match series will be enough for them to retain the number one ranking, although they would drop at least two ratings points.

If Sri Lanka win the series 2-0 against Australia, it would strengthen their hold at the number one position with 131 ratings points, nine ahead of the West Indies.

Australia next play West Indies in a one-off Twenty20 International on February 13 at Brisbane.
