Half-Way Tree traffic changes long overdue

THE EDITOR, Sir:

We should not be commending the National Works Agency for the traffic changes in Half-Way Tree; rather, we should be sending them to jail for not having them in place before.

I have always commented that the persons in charge of the traffic system are simply setting up death traps around the city for pedestrians and motorists. Remember Dunrobin Avenue/Constant Spring Road? How can you have a walk light to the pedestrians crossing at Dunrobin Avenue, while giving motorists a green filter light to turn off Constant Spring Road on to Dunrobin to mow down the crossing pedestrians?

And don't think that was an accident, since that's the same thing that was happening at Suthermere Road/Constant Spring Road, hence the need for that female police officer permanently posted there during morning peak hour. Without her, many pedestrians would have been mowed down.

Also, we need more right-turn filter lights throughout the city, e.g., for vehicles coming down Constant Spring Road and turning right on to Dunrobin Avenue. It is suicidal for motorists to be trying to make a quick right turn ahead of oncoming traffic.

I, therefore, repeat: Send these traffic management people to jail or to a mental hospital.
