Digicel had better not follow in LIME's footsteps

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am writing to express my extreme displeasure with the contempt for customers currently being displayed by telecommunications company Digicel.

In recent weeks, it has become virtually impossible to obtain Digicel call cards in $100 denomination. Customers are being forced against their will to purchase cards in denominations of $108 or $120 (excluding GCT).

Customers are also being refused service in some Digicel stores (notably HWT Transport Centre) and ordered to purchase call credit from itinerant vendors hanging around outside the store, whether they wish to do so or not.

In addition, we are constantly bombarded by irritating text messages at all hours of the day and night offering all sorts of games and inducing customers to have persons residing overseas to send them call credit.

It is downright annoying and tantamount to privacy invasion in the least and bordering on harassment. I purchased a phone along with SIM card and call credit for the sole purpose of making and receiving calls and other available telecommunications services, and NOT to be importuned and harassed daily.

Having displaced C&W/TOJ/LIME (how have the 'once mighty' fallen) from their perch of monopoly arrogance, incompetence and lethargy by offering superior customer service, technology and price competitiveness, Digicel seems to be have come full circle and are heading in the same direction. Corporate hubris fed by self-aggrandisement and bulging coffers will lead to the same downfall.
