Concerns over US documentary on lotto scam

MINISTER OF National Security Peter Bunting is concerned that a documentary on lottery scamming, scheduled to be aired on US cable channel AXS TV in March, could be devastating to the country if it focuses on the victims.

The programme, which is being produced by American journalist and former CBS '60 Minutes' anchor, Dan Rather, is currently being filmed in Jamaica.

Rather, who is now managing editor and anchor of the television news magazine, 'Dan Rather Reports', visited the island on Monday. He was scheduled to depart Friday (yesterday) afternoon, leaving his camera crew behind to complete the filming.

In fact, the US crew is being escorted by Senior Superintendent of Police Andrew Lewis, and has visited residential areas such as Ironshore, Rhyne Park, Granville, Rose Heights and Carol Gardens, where scammers are believed to own a number of homes.
