The local entertainment industry is largely seen as male dominated. The majority of music and event producers are men, however, a set of young women appear to be making significant progress in the fields of radio and television production.

The second Orrett Rhoden International Music Festival of Jamaica will feature the celebrated Jamaican pianist Orrett Rhoden exclusively in three concerts where he will feature Johann Sebastian Bach and Frederic Chopin.

Two days ago, we celebrated the 56th birth anniversary of perhaps Jamaica's most loved musical icon - Dennis Brown OD. Although he was crowned 'The prince of reggae', his ardent followers considered him 'The King' insofar as his ability to 'hold and motivate' a dance crowd was concerned.

It is no secret that Jamaica is a breeding ground for talent, both in the entertainment arena and otherwise. There has always been a willing cadre of promising young acts in the Jamaican music industry just looking for their chance to take over from the established stars; but these up and comers are, and have always been, mostly males.
