Without a title sponsor this year, Central Champs has been scaled down to a one-day time final meet to be held at Vere Technical High School in Clarendon today.
The meet is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start, with the steeplechase being the first event of the day. It will close with the 4x400m.
"We decided to host a one-day meet at Vere this year though not having a sponsor to cover the cost of having the meet at G.C. Foster, where it was held for the last six years," said Olive Forrester, a member of the organising committee. "We will take time this year to attract new sponsors as we know that we have an event that is worthy of sponsorship."
Forrester added: "Having the meet at Vere is not ideal at this time, but we would prefer to stage a one-day meet than not have any at all. We look forward to having our regular two-day meet next year - one that is worthy of the world-class athletes that we have produced over the years."
Over 22 schools have registered for the meet, including defending champions for the girls and boys' sections, Edwin Allen and St Jago, respectively.
Traditionally strong Holmwood Technical, hosts Vere, Hydel and Manchester are among the schools who will compete at the meet tomorrow.
