Gov't deaf to hearing impaired

Published: Wednesday | February 13, 2013 Comments 0

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Why is it that while Finance Minister Peter Phillips and Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller spoke on TV during the national broadcast Monday night, there wasn't someone signing to facilitate the deaf community?! The absence of someone signing is a big disrespect.

When they were campaigning on stage for power, someone was there to relay the message to the deaf. I'm sure they got the vote of the blind, the deaf and the dumb.

Thank God I can hear (not read lips), but what about the deaf?! A national broadcast should have someone signing.

Standing up for the disabled!
