Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Peter Phillips on Tuesday disclosed that he was prepared to approach the Parliament for additional secretarial costs that might be incurred by the Financial Sector Adjustment Company (FINSAC) commission of enquiry, in addition to the $4.6 million contained in the first Supplementary Estimates to wrap up the exercise, but not much more.
Phillips revealed that discussions between the financial secretary and the commissioners were ongoing to hammer out a decision on the way forward, but suggested that the commission would do well to fast-track the completion of its report.
Phillips made it clear it would be hard put to approach Cabinet or the Parliament with a request for whopping sums as more than $100 million has already been spent on the enquiry into the 1990s collapse of the financial sector.
The matter surfaced on Tuesday during deliberations on the first Supplementary Estimates for the 2012-2013 financial year when Phillips was asked by Opposition Spokesman on Finance Audley Shaw about the projected amount to complete the FINSAC report and the projected time frame for its delivery.
