Joe Fanning on a winner

Published: Friday | February 15, 2013 Comments 0

Today's racing takes place at Sandown, Fakenham, Lingfield and Wolverhampton in the evening.

Meanwhile, champion jockey Richard Hughes, who has never won an English Classic, said his focus this year is more on winning his first classic than retaining the championship.

The jockey believes he has two strong classic contenders in SKY LANTERN, winner of three of her six races last year, in the 1000 Guineas and TORNADO for his father-in-law Richard Hannon in the Epsom Derby.

TORNADO, a son of HIGH CHAPARRAL, is bred for the part and won all three of his juvenile starts.

Today at Lingfield in the 17th race over a mile (0-85 Handicap), jockey Joe Fanning and trainer Mark Johnston should team up successfully once again with the recent winner HENRY THE AVIATOR, the marginal 2-1 favourite in a field of seven. He won handily some weeks ago and looks the type to follow in this small field.
