PORT-OF-SPAIN (CMC):

At least seven people were killed during a bloody weekend in Trinidad and Tobago, pushing the death toll so far this year to 59.

The police said that those murdered ranged from ages 27 to 41 and that the killings took place mainly along the volatile east-west corridor.

The police said that 26-year-old Kevin Thomas was shot and killed on Friday at a car park, but they have no motive for his murder, while 29-year-old Terry Gill was at his Longdenville home with his wife when on investigating a knock on his front door, he was shot multiple times and killed.

Law enforcement authorities believe that Gill's murder was drug-related, pointing to several arrests for possession of narcotics.

Thirty-one-year-old Brent Delcon was shot by an unidentified gunman near his home in Arima, east of here on Saturday, while 41-year-old Marlon Bradshaw was shot and killed during a drive-by.

The police said 23-year-old Ronald Nurse was stabbed to death after he was confronted outside a bar by a man, and on Sunday, 27-year-old Sherman Toussaint was shot and killed in Cocorite, west of here.

Police are also investigating the murder of an unidentified man, who was shot several times on the outskirts of the city.

In recent times, the police have linked most of the murders here to gang-related activities.
