THE EDITOR, Sir:
Shivnarine Chanderpaul is a slow and steady batsman, one who will anchor a ship that is drifting aimlessly away to no-man's land.
The West Indies selectors are not using their gift of wisdom. How can they leave out Shivnarine Chanderpaul from a one-day squad? Fifty overs is a lot of overs, and he should be a must-pick on an ODI squad. He is capable of taking the bull by the horns, by hitting fours and sixes when he is ready, and remaining not out at that.
Leaving the 'Tiger' out of ODIs is asking for serious trouble; unless he is sick or injured. He is the best guaranteed run-getter for the Windies.
If we had three Chanderpauls, instead of one, in a West Indies team; or two more batsmen with the likes of Mr Reliable, maybe the shackles of inconsistency and panic when batting under pressure would have already been broken
Allow Shiv to continue giving it his best shot.
