Football and track and field are the two favourite sports of the majority of Jamaicans.

Our pollsters have found that more than a third, 35.53 per cent, of the population point to football as their favourite sport. Track and field comes next with 29.67 per cent, while cricket is in third spot on 16.48 per cent.

The poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus six per cent, was conducted between January 12 and 21, 2013 by Dr Paul A. Bourne and Conroy Julian. The sample size was 300 and participants were drawn from Kingston and St Andrew, St Thomas, St Catherine and Clarendon - five parishes which contain just over half of the country's population.

NOTE: Dr Bourne is the director of the Socio-Medical Research Institute in Kingston, while Julian is a development communicator and convener of the Association of Media Professionals.
