US Embassy hosts Blues On The Green
American a capella group Traces of Blue will alight the dome at Emancipation Park for the US Embassy's Blues on the Green (BOTG) event, in celebration of Black History Month.
The dynamic vocal ensemble, formerly known as the Afro Blue Vocal Band, will perform on Friday at the Emancipation Park at 6 p.m.
As a group, Traces of Blue obtained international recognition through the third season of the NBC a cappella competition, 'The Sing-Off'. They have since become a professional ensemble, performing to adoring crowds who appreciate their musical style, which is based in jazz and blues and jazz, which has allowed them to lend their signature sound to genres such as R&B, gospel, pop, hip hop, funk, and many others.
The embassy will use this year's Blues on the Green event to further the spirit of community by inviting each attendee to donate a canned food item to the National Council for Senior Citizens.
The embassy has used previous BOTG events to prompt a spirit of community, as the public was invited to donate non-perishable food items to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management and Food For The Poor.
The embassy has garnered much support from local entities as this year's local sponsors include the Best Dressed Chicken/Jamaica Broilers Group, Coldfield Manufacturing Limited, Jamaica Business Development Corporation, Jamaica Tourist Board, KIRK Distributors, Michi Supercenter, National Commercial Bank, Pat's Flower Shop, Isle Chix Limited, Sampars Cash and Carry, Continental Baking Company/National, Mavis Bank Coffee, Wisynco, Pepsi-Cola, The Gleaner Company Ltd, The Observer, TVJ/RJR, CVM TV, Mega Jamz, and Kool 97FM.
