Former national Under-20 striker Craig Foster believes his form for boyhood club Reno in this season's Captain's Bakery and Grill Western Confed Super League and a subsequent move to Europe could trigger a call-up to the senior Jamaica team.

Foster, who is 21 and led Reno to a 2-1 victory over Bamboo in Tuesday's Zone One Super League clash in Hanover, told The Gleaner that he is continuing work on his fitness - after returning from a hamstring injury last year for Motola AIF in the Swedish Division One, which sidelined him for several months.

Melvin Blair also found the net for second-placed Reno (20 points) in the 37th minute, while Kevin Bowen scored for fourth-placed Bamboo (10 points), who were suffering their third straight loss.

On the right track

"I am working hard in order to get a call from coach Theodore Whitmore. I am still not full one hundred, but I'm getting there and that goal against Bamboo showed I'm on the right track," said Foster, who netted in the 17th minute to open the scoring for Reno. Tomorrow's People, which beat Norwood Strikers 1-0, lead Zone One with 21 points.

"Hopefully, I will be in the sort of form that will turn the coach's head in my direction, realising I had done exceptionally well for the country when I played with the Under-20 team."

Foster was netting his fourth goal of the season and looked the player of old, when he was a constant threat to opposing defenders. He said he thinks a purple patch of form may just be what is needed for him to get a Reggae Boyz call-up now.

"I am scoring goals, maybe not as much as I would like but they are coming and I am getting fitter each day. This is important because when I score it keeps me in the conversation. Hopefully, I can manage some more before the Reggae Boyz World Cup 2014 qualifiers end," reasoned Foster.

The Reno front man said his plans also include a return to Europe, but noted his agent, Kevin Cohan, has been working on a number of options, with his loan move back to Sweden uncertain.

"That is where I want to play football. Obviously, I will be doing all I can in the meantime for Reno to win the Super League and return to Premier League, but it is in Europe that I really see me fully blossoming," said Foster.

In his first season in top-flight 2011, he finished the 2010-11 season - in what was the Digicel Premier League - with 15 goals and was named league MVP, while finishing second in the race for the Golden Boot.
