THE EDITOR, Sir:

I have to use this medium to bring to the attention of the relevant authorities, i.e., the member of parliament, Mr Fitz Jackson and Mr George Lee, mayor of Portmore, the mosquito nuisance the residents of the municipality are facing daily.

We have had problems with mosquitoes in the past. However, this latest onslaught is the worst we have had for the past 30 years that I have lived here.

I can't speak definitively of the efforts that are being made regarding eradicating mosquitoes in the entire municipality of Portmore. However, in my community of Braeton Phase 2, fogging has taken place only once since the beginning of the year. This has done nothing to ease our plight, as the mosquito population has increased since the fogging.

I am almost certain that our representatives are aware of this problem and what needs to be done to reduce the nuisance. Simply put, we need to have continuous fogging and reduction of breeding sites.

Mosquitoes will always be with us despite our best efforts of eradication. But efforts ought to be made to minimise the plague that we are now experiencing.
